Speak without Fear

Hope for the New Year

It’s funny, but when I think about repeating myself I am reminded of a quick story. When I wrote my first book, “Speak Without Fear,” my editor said, “Deb, do you know you repeat yourself on the big ideas you have in the book?” to which I replied, “It’s because no one listens, so you have to say it over and over and in different ways,” which is fine for speaking, but not such a good idea for a book. I am in hopes that my second book, “Powerful People Take Up Physical Space,” will be out in a few […]

Your Only Limit Is You

For the last five years I have been writing a weekly blog and producing a podcast, which stemmed from my Saturday radio show, “Encouragement for Your Life,” heard every week on 94.5FM. As we come into the holidays, I will be closing out this chapter of life–my weekly newsletter and podcast. That being said, after 250 shows/posts/newsletters – I will end my weekly dose of encouragement with the same encouragement that I started out with almost five years ago. Please hear me loud and clear (and I am speaking to myself here as well), your only limit is you. And […]

I choose to live by choice, not by chance

I choose to live by choice, not by chance~ Miranda Marrott I came across this quote online the other day and I really like it for this Christmas season because it puts in place what I consider the realities of life – the simple facts that are truth for so many of us…and what I like is as I read through the list, I believe you’ll come to understand the proper steps for our success…meaning that you (and I) need to choose… I choose                                                           To live by choice, not by chance; To make changes, not excuses; To be motived, not […]

If you don’t risk anything, you risk everything

In reading over the questions that some of you sent me to answer on the show, one theme seemed to come to the top (over and over) and it mirrors a quote that I have been thinking about sharing on the show; it seems the stars aligned with the questions that were sent in, and I came upon this idea, In life, if you don’t risk anything, you risk everything. Some people seem to be so unwilling to risk anything, which makes me think that they are missing out on some real opportunities in life. And you know I’m not […]

Don’t Worry About Tomorrow

Don’t Worry About Tomorrow Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matt. 6:34 As I prepare for the holidays I am constantly reminded of a verse I grew up with. It goes like this, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Now, although that does not appear to be the most comforting verse I’ve ever read, it is more true than not, and, with that knowledge in hand, I can rest assured that what will […]

Your Story isn’t Over Yet

Your story isn’t over yet. In praise of the humble semicolon I know it seems odd to write a post about a punctuation mark, but recently I was at a restaurant and my waiter had a very pronounced semicolon tattooed on his arm and I asked about it. He told me that the semicolon is now the symbol to recognize those who have struggled with depression, anxiety, addiction and/or suicidal thoughts. I had not heard about this trend of using the semicolon as a symbol of hope. The waiter went on to explain that the semicolon represents “…a sentence the […]

Be gentle with everyone you meet

If there is one thing I have learned in life it is this, Be gentle with everyone you meet–you have no idea what has happened to them on their life journey. As most of you know, I am a speaker. I stand before audiences of 100 to 1,000 on any given week, and it never fails–really, it never fails–that someone who looks like a million bucks or who is the life of the party or who carries themselves with such apparent ease is the one who carries the deepest scars. Over the years, I think I’ve developed something like a […]

If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old

“If you want something new, you have to stop doing something old.” ― Peter F. Drucker I received a lot of comments from last week’s show about the limiting beliefs that so many people have that hold them down–mentally, emotionally or physically–or they still have silly, old beliefs that keep them away from what they consider their true calling. And while money was part of the equation for many, the other part, which, frankly, surprised me, was the idea that so many people think that they are too old or are too set in their ways or too far down […]

What will you do?

Well it’s bound to happen, and it did…. I fell down some steps as I was going off the stage to write something on the whiteboard. It happened so quickly, and I went down hard and hit my head against the wall and my backside on the steps and my shoulder took the brunt of the fall. Probably one of the worst things that can happen to a speaker – in the middle of a 2-hour session is to fall down. Luckily, I was able to regain my composure and as I quickly stood and said, “well now that I […]
