Sofield Wins Election to Public Works Commission by a Waterslide
GREENVILLE, SC: Deb Sofield won a seat on the Commission of Public Works for the Greenville Water System, her sweeping victory also earning her a spot in city history books.
The long-time Greenville city councilwoman is the first woman to win an election to the Commission since its inception in 1918.
For the past eight years, Sofield served as the mayor’s appointee to the Commission and sought election upon her retirement from the City Council.
The Water Commission had an opening due to the untimely death of Mr. Vardry Ramsuer who served as the chairman for many years. Mr. Bob Howard held the interim position on the Commission until the election took place.
Sofield ran a campaign built on experience, clean water, fair water rates and protecting our water sources. She handedly won the republican primary and then went onto sweep the general election beating her democratic opponent with an almost 2 to 1 margin of victory.
